Business Travel Tips!


When you travel the world around you, the world changes within you. This was one of my quotes a few years ago from my travel blog when I was on the World Tour blog. That’s true to date, in my opinion.

I have traveled a lot in the past 3 months, in particular, and I am often asked how I do it. How I keep my energy, my concentration, my connections, my health. So here are my best travel tips: try them, you’ll like them.

TIP # 1 – KEEP REGULAR HABITS. This is normal for me, however, whether I’m traveling or not. But when I’m on the go, it’s essential for me to sleep. I adapt to the time zone I am in and follow it. I make sure that the room is dark, cool, silent and normally, when for example at conferences, I always make room for myself. I know that many people experience great joy in sharing a room when attending events. This doesn’t work for me because I get enough stimulation during working days and meetings – I don’t need the additional stimulation of someone in my room who wants to belittle the instructions for the next few hours. It’s my free time so that I can mentally prepare myself for a restful sleep. This also means limited electronics or TV.

TIP # 2 – GET A REGULAR EXERCISE. These days, that can only mean counting your steps at the airports – they’re so HUGE! It takes a long time and many steps to get around. I hired a personal trainer this year, and when I’m home, it makes a big difference. When I travel, I remain responsible, I train and publish photos for my coach to show evidence of my commitment. At the very least, I do some Yoga moves that help with stretching after long plane rides. I also bring my exercise DVD – me and Jillian Roberts – let’s look out of this world!

TIP # 3 – I MAKE CHOICES OF GOOD FOOD. There is really no reason to look at a menu when I travel. I know what I eat regularly for breakfast, lunch and dinner – now, remember my 80/20 rule. When I am in a special place (like in Africa – I will have chocolate croissants … I’m just saying!) – I will try different foods. But for normal travel, I stick to my regular food choices and rarely drink anything while traveling. It ruins my sleep. I know. So why do it?

TIP # 4: I keep my journal free. Next to my gym clothes, my Gratitude Journal is the only thing that goes in the suitcase. It is when I travel that I realize and recognize that blessed life is alive and I want to maintain my attitude of gratitude.

TIP # 5: KEEP A SENSE OF MOOD. Traveling these days can be frustrating, challenging and difficult. There are many things beyond my control. It is so important to maintain a sense of humor – and I do it by observing people. I love it! Most people have their faces glued to their electronic devices: I sit down with my cappuccino and look. It is great for keeping stress levels low. (good quality chocolate and Starbucks milk make me a happy traveler! – find your happy place too!)

I have traveled a lot and will continue to do so. My travel tips are not rocket science – they are fairly basic and yet they work. Try them, you will like them too.
